Weeknote: Week 31 2024

29 July-2 August 2024

If you’re wondering what this is or why I’m writing weeknotes, I explain in my first weeknote.

What happened this week

This week I have a friend I made in Mexico earlier this year staying with me which has been really fun. On Tuesday we were treated to this amazing sunset at Wardie Bay.

It was a big week at my main work, the School of System Change, as we opened recruitment for all of our autumn 2024 courses - announced through a snazzy newsletter, a snazzy brochure and (some would argue) an even snazzier video on LinkedIn. Working on our Basecamp course specifically, I co-hosted the first online Basecamp 2024 information session with course co-faciltator Zoya and kicked off our paid ads campaign for this course with our expert external contractor. I’m enjoying seeing behind the scenes of paid ads and learning more about how it all works, and am thinking about how deep into this world I want to go in terms of upskilling.

I also had a very generative discussion with two colleagues about an upcoming comms campaign with lots of juicy, valuable content to share, and continued the editing process of a blog series we are launching shortly. I facilitated my fifth weekly team meeting where we checked in by answering, ‘How are you arriving? What is something you have smelt recently that made you feel a certain way?’ Mine was sheep poo. In contrast, I welcomed people in with Stop And Smell The Roses by Mac Davis.

On Thursday and Friday I worked for my freelance client, providing communications support during a merger process between two charities. I got to nerd out figuring out how to create an editable event invitation template on PowerPoint which I’m very proud of, wrote up a detailed first draft of content for an event planning guide, and reviewed data and feedback on the organisation’s internal communications, writing up an executive summary and pulling out key themes and recommendations.

What’s been sparking my curiosity and/or joy

  • Thinking about how to ‘join the dots’ across all the different things happening in an organisation to make sense of what we are doing and how it all contributes to narrative building

  • Learning how to create editable templates in PowerPoint

  • Thinking a lot about rhythm (my word for this year) in both work and personal life. I’m itching to read more of my Rhythm magazine by Atmos.

  • Looking forward to seeing lots of circus acts at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and attending Femmergy.

Thanks for reading! If you have any feedback or comments, I’d love to hear from you.
